30 reis black, early Intermediate Impression, two horizontal pairs from Plate 1 (positions 9-10, 15-16); both pairs with ample to large margins all round, used on large piece (writing on reverse mentions both Malaga and London) with some ink from the letter showing through on to the adhesives, both pairs tied by framed "PERNAMBUCO SHIELD" datestamps (Ayres fig. 1548) well struck in black (23.7.1843) in September, the second month of use. A remarkable and most attractive usage. Provenance: Collection R. Seabra Benavides ('Tijuca'), Torres, London, 11 Oct 1996, lot 3008; Luis Alemany, Corinphila sale 181, June 2013, lot 161 Automatisch generierte Übersetzung: 30 reis schwarz, frühe Zwischenauflage, zwei waagrechte Paare von Platte 1 (Positionen 9-10, 15-16) ; beide Paare mit ringsum vollen bis breiten Rändern, gebraucht auf großem Briefstück (schreibend auf der Rückseite erwähnt beide Malaga und London) mit einigen Tinte ab der Brief mit durch auf an die Briefmarken, beide Paare entwertet mit Rechteck "PERNAMBUCO Schild" Datumsstempel (Ayres fig. 1548) gut in schwarz abgeschlagen (23,7,1843) im September, der zweite Verwendungsmonaten. The piece with small part missing at left but the stamps very fine. A most attractive and rare usage in the first month of issue. Cert. Enzo Diena (1990), Moorhouse (2015) Automatisch generierte Übersetzung: 90 reis schwarz, Frühdruck, ein gestempeltes senkrechtes Paar ab zweiter Mischung Platte, Status A, Positionen 5/11, mit ringsum vollen bis breiten Rändern und mit die Horizontale Trennungslinien oben, entwertet auf kleinem Briefstück bei kräftiger Abschlag des "CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE" Kreisdatumsstempel (22 August 1843) in schwarz. 90 reis grey-black, Early Impression with first traces of wear, the famous block of nine and a single example from Second Composite plate, State B (positions 9-12/14-18), all used on piece and showing the vertical and horizontal marginal lines at right and at base, the lower left stamp with the vertical marginal line continuing 6 mm downwards. Overall toning and two positions with creasing and fault on position 16 of no importance; cancelled with six strikes of the framed "MARICA" handstamps (Ayres fig. 1356) in brown. Illustrated in Juchert's "Ochsenaugen im Viererblock" on page 66 and in "Bull's Eyes" by H. Bunselmeyer Ferreira on page 117. A fantastic rarity and Exhibition piece. Cert. Rare multiple - with very few known: blocks of four represent the third largest used multiples. Cert. Moorhouse (2010) Automatisch generierte Übersetzung: Inclinados 1844/46: 60 r.
