1889: ½ d. brown, postal stationery card, used example, sent
locally within London, dated 31 August 1898, cancelled by the
scarce London Boston Experimental Machine cancel in black, from the
first Trial. Has been pinned through the stamp and as a result has
two tiny holes and a small scuff, which are not obvious and do not
detract. Otherwise, a fine example of this postmark. Additionally,
comes with a study of the Boston Machine cancels comprising eleven
pages with detailed write-up. Four are dedicated to the second
Trial of 1899-1900 and six covering the Edwardian period of the
second Trial and later usage. Included in the assembly is a piece
franked with an 1881 1 d. lilac tied by the First Trial Boston
Experimental cancel dated 10 September 1898. Three pages have seven
examples on cover from the second Trial and one page which has six
pieces with an illustration of each of the 6 machines used during
the Second Trial. The latter six pages have twelve covers,
including four Victoria usage. A scarce group of 20 covers and 7
pieces (27)
