French Post Office in Jaffa 1854 (Oct 19): Entire letter from Jaffa to Marseille, dated inside, endorsed "Par le Scamandre", struck by superb cursive handstamp of “Jaffa” in black (Pothion = 32 points / Livnat no 1), reverse with “ALEXANDRIE EGYPTE” transit and MARSEILLE arrival cds’s (Oct 30) in black. Part of back and tiny piece at the top of the front are missing due to the effects of humidity, nevertheless a perfect strike of the elusive handstamp in use between 1852-1854. Taxed upon arrival with ‘10’ décimes. Provenance: Collection Schüssler; collection Cihangir, Corinphila sale 121 (May 2000), lot 2175

French Post Office in Jaffa 1872 (Sept 23): Letter sheet from Jaffa to Marseille, bearing Napoléon laureated 80 c. rose, minor perf. toning, tied by Gros chiffres '5089' numeral of Jaffa in brownish red, clear “JAFFA SYRIE” cogwheel cds in the same shade, framed "P.P.", and "PAQUEBOTS DE LA MÉDITERRANÉE" handstamp in red alongside, reverse with “BEYROUTH SYRIE” transit and MARSEILLE arrival cds’s (Oct 11) in black. The brownish red shade of the cancellation ink was in use only for a few days. Provenance: Collection David Franco, David Feldman sale (Dec 2017), lot 30151

French Post Office in Jaffa 1896 (Feb 24): Double rate Registered Envelope from Jaffa to Nice, bearing a Sage 5 c. green, 10 c. black on lilac (4), and 15 c. blue (2), each adhesive tied by clear “JAFFA SYRIE” cds, rectangular framed "R" handstamp in black (Steichele 319) alongside, reverse with “PORT-SAID EGYPTE” transit and NICE arrival (March 4) cds's. Jaffa used from 1876 only this rectangular registration mark, a handstamp which was abandoned in France in 1873, opinion Brun (2000), cert. Nakri (2000).
