French Post Office in Jaffa 1896 (Feb 24): Double rate Registered
Envelope from Jaffa to Nice, bearing a Sage 5 c. green, 10 c. black
on lilac (4), and 15 c. blue (2), each adhesive tied by clear
“JAFFA SYRIE” cds, rectangular framed "R" handstamp in black
(Steichele 319) alongside, reverse with “PORT-SAID EGYPTE” transit
and NICE arrival (March 4) cds's. Jaffa used from 1876 only this
rectangular registration mark, a handstamp which was abandoned in
France in 1873, opinion Brun (2000), cert. Nakri (2000).
