Spanish Colonies, Philippines 1891 (Feb 18): Cover to San
Francisco, USA franked with 1890 8 c. yellow-green (Scott 160),
tied by neat strike of "Admon General De Comunicaciones, Islas
Filipinas" oval cancel, faint "CORREOS MANILA" despatch datestamp
on back, SAN FRANCISCO arrival (March 21) datestamps. Cover with
traces of edgewear, very fine, a particularly scarce value to find
on cover, cert. Graus (1991). Note: The cover was directed to
Wilhelm Sellschopp (1862-1938), a famous German stamp dealer and
auction house from Hamburg, who, however, has founded his business
on 4 January 1891 in San Francisco, only few weeks before he got
this cover. After the 1906 earthquake he left the San Francisco and
started his business again in Hamburg. Provenance: Robert Siegel
