Tati Concessions 1888: Bechuanaland 1 d. on 1 d. lilac & black,
wmk. Orb, perf. 14, the famous used example cancelled by "TATI /
BECHUANALAND" circular datestamp (21 Aug 1888) in black. As Tati
was not part of Bechuanaland this cancellation was altered
immediately after this journey with "Bechuanaland" being erased.
This stamp being used on the sole Southbound journey from Tati to
Vryburg. Superb and of great rarity. Note: The Tati Postal Agency
was opened on August 15, 1888 and on the first mail South, the
stamps were pen-cancelled. The canceller used above was delivered
to the Tati Agency srrived in time for the second post (Aug 21). As
the Tati District was claimed by both Khama and Lobenguela, the
word "Bechuanaland" was removed immediately after this mail.
