Almirante Occupation 1921: General Tomás Guardia Fernández 5 centavos orange definitive, bearing a 'double' strike of the provisional “ALMIRANTE OCUPACION COSTARRICENSE” overprint in black, fresh colour, perforations fine, used on a cover from Almirante to San Salvador, dated 9 March 1921, neatly tied by violet circular ALMIRANTE datestamp. Reverse, arrival "SERVICIO INTERNACIONAL SAN SALVADOR 9 MAR 1921" in violet. Minor creasing to parts of envelope, not affecting adhesive. A very scarce occupation provisional on cover to a foreign destination, issued during the Costa Rican military occupation of Almirante amidst the 1921 border conflict with Panama. Two small tears to envelope not affecting adhesive, otherwise a clean and attractive example, with great historical appeal. An important Central American postal history rarity, combining provisional issue, double overprint variety, occupation use, and international destination.
