Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - Via Great Britain, 1 January 1870 - 30 June 1871; 1870 (April 7): Envelope from New York to Paris, bearing 1869 Pictorial Issue Postrider 2 c. brown in a horizontal pair and 3 c. Locomotive 3 c. ultramarine in a vertical pair (Scott 113+114), two overall fine multiples with minor perforation irregularities, tied by four-ring cancels, the lower pair in addition by "NEW YORK" despatch cds in red, Anglo-French "GB / 40 c" accountancy handstamp, and CALAIS entry cds (April 19) in black, as well as '5' décimes charge. Part of backflap missing, nevertheless an interesting franking to pay the 10 cents rate, sent with the 'Tarifa' of the Cunard line, leaving New York on 7 April, arriving in Queenstown on 18 April 1870.
