Coloridos 1861: 280 reis red, a used example with large margins all round, used on 1867 cover from Pernambuco to Brunswick, Germany, marked in manusctipt for double rate in blue crayon; tied by French Maritime "Anchor" lozenge of dots in black with circular "PERNAMBOUC / PAQ. FR. J No 3" circular datestamp (Sept 30) at right (Salles fig. 1085) and carried on steamer "Estramadure". Underpaid for double rate and struck with framed "AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFISANT" in red and, in Paris with "F / 48" Franco-German Accountancy marking in black (Van der Linden fig. 1184) and charged 17 groschen on arrival in blue crayon. Closed tear on face panel and and flap restored on reverse but a remarkable cover to an unusual destination.

Coloridos 1861: 430 r. yellow, a used block of four, of fine fresh colour on cream paper, ample margins all round, cancelled by two strikes of french type "PERNAMBUCO" circular datestamps (30 June 1867) in black. Tiny top left corner repair and ironed diagonal bend mentioned for full accuracy and not affecting the appearance, an extraordinarily rare and most attractive multiple, the second largest recorded. Provenance: Collection Maurice Burrus, Robson Lowe, London, 4 April 1963, lot 1373.

"Bresil / Bordeaux" transit cds in red (Dec 21). Reverse with Hamburg arrival cds (Dec 23). The envelope somehat aged but a scarce franking.

Coloridos 1861: 430 reis yellow, a used vertical pair with good to large margins all round, just crossed by vertical file fold, on 1863 cover from Bahia to Ansbach, Bavaria at double rate, tied by oval "CORREIO DA BAHIA / BRAZIL" oval handstamp in black with "Correio da Bahia / Brazil" despatch cds (Dec 12) in black at left. Framed "P.D." in red and "Bresil / Calais" transit cds in red (Jan 3, 1864) all on obverse. Reverse with half-round Windsheim datestamp (Jan 5) in black. Addressee's name erased but a rare rate and destination.
