1914: Printed in Melbourne, Plate Proof of the 1 d. value in carmine, printed on pink tinted paper with wmk. Crown over A, single line perf., very fresh bright colour, positioned right, although retains its beauty. Scarce; just two pairs and one single example are known to exist. BW 70PP(5) = $ 2'500. Note: These were prepared by the contractor who manufactured the OS puncturing head. Originally reported in the 1930s, they were used to check the alignment of the perforation pins for the OS equipment. In the 1950s Chief Engineer at Wiggins Teape, Shoalhaven, NSW stated; "It was used solely by the toolroom mechanics, and similar papers are used all over the Western World as part of a standard process, ceasing with the introduction of photogravure and litho printing. Such trial papers used by the tool-shop are always pink."
