1863/64: 1 d. deep brown-red, a block of four with clear to large margins all round, tiny age spot in margin, used on 1865 quadruple rate entire letter from Sir Lowry's Pass Station to Stellenbosch, cancelled by two fine strikes of the CGH obliterator in black. 'Cape Town / Cape Colony' circular datestamp at right (July 1) and reverse with oval framed "SIR LOWRY'S-PASS" despatch in black (June 31, sic) and "STELLENBOSCH" arrival in black. A fine and rare cover, the contents are a monthly report, referring to the hire of a fellow road-worker and stating that over 400 yards of road at the Pass had been recoated that month. A delightful and very rare entire. Note: A 1 d. De La Rue block of four on cover was not present in the Smuts, Stevenson, Dale-Lichtenstein and Indhusophon Grand Prix collections.
