Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - Open mail; 1860 (Dec 23): Entire letter from Le Havre to New York with the 'Glasgow' of the Inman line, endorsed "Steamer Glasgow, Liverpool le 26.", bearing Napoléon imperf. 80 c. carmine (Yvert 17), a fresh example, margins from shaved to large, tied by Petits Chiffres '1495' numeral, matching "LE HAVRE" despatch cds in black and framed "P.P." in red alongside. Obverse struck in transit by "LONDON PAID" (Dec 25) cds and US '6' lightly overstruck on adhesive. The 'Glasgow' made its non-contract journey from Liverpool to New York between December 24 to January 11, 1861.
