Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - The 1857 Postal Convention, French line Compagnie Générale Transatlantique; 1865 (Dec 14): Entire letter from Le Havre to New York, sent with the 'Europe' of the French C.G.T. line, bearing pair 1862 Napoléon perf. 80 c. rose (Yvert 24), tied by Gros Chiffres '1769' numeral, matching "LE HAVRE" despatch cds in black, and "NEW YORK PAID JAN 2" arrival cds. Framed PD, framed "Fr. Service" in exceptional red, normally struck in blue to signify direct service, and '6' cents double rate inland credit, all in red alongside. Sent with the 'Europe' from Le Havre to New York (Dec 16, 1865 - Jan 2, 1866). Reference: Displayed and discussed in Hubbard & Winter on page 279.
