French Post Office in Jerusalem 1879 (Nov 27): Registered envelope via Jaffa to Paris, bearing two single examples of Sage 25 c. black on red, left stamp cut at top, each tied by light “JAFFA SYRIE” cds in black, an information strike, empty Jerusalem Cross / Croix de Jérusalem évidé (Steichele no 326 / Pothion = 38 points), and octagonal “R”, both in blue alongside. The reverse was struck in transit by “ALEXANDRIE EGYPTE” cds (Nov 30), Lyon - Paris ambulant and PARIS arrival (Dec 9) cds’s. Reverse of envelope detached from front and rejoined, nevertheless a usage of utmost rarity of the empty Jerusalem Cross of which Livnat can show only five examples between November 1878 and July 1880. Correct UPU rate of 25 centimes each for postage and registration. Cert. Brun (2024).
