1879: 1 d. brown, postal stationery card, used London to Zierikzee,
Holland, dated 30 January 1891, cancelled by the rare and
distinctive London EC 'Malin' Experimental Machine cancellation in
black, with arrival cds also in black alongside. Faint corner
crease lower left and minor damage along that side, otherwise fine
(H&B CP10). An excellent example of this rarely seen postmark,
which was used intermittently during a six month period in 1890-91.
One of four known examples. Note: Little has been discovered in the
British Postal Archives regarding the 'Malin' machine trial, or the
machine itself, other than the machine was rejected since it could
only postmark a maximum of 100 items of mail in a minute. The
machine appears to have been used only for postmarking out-bound
mail to foreign destinations
